Media Tag Rules

Basic DJ leverages the media tags found inside audio files. The tag information is used during the import process. The information that follows highlights how the tags are mapped for each audio format. There are several special rules highlighted below as well.

 

Windows Media Audio (wma)

  Title = Song Title

  Artist = Artist

  Album = Album

  Genre = Genre

 

MP3 Audio Files (mp3) (Support is currently pending)

  Title = Song Title

  Artist = Artist

  Album = Album

  Genre = Genre

 

Various Artist Rule

The various artist rule allows for the import of songs from albums that contain songs from different artists. This accommodates for ripping software that tracks artists only at the album level.

 

For this to work the entry in the artist field must be set to Various Artists or Various. The song title field must then contain the Artists name, a separator, and the song title. The valid separators between the artists and the song title are ~!, /, - and _. The ~! dual character combination is preferred over the others as it provides the highest level of accuracy. The priority order when checking for the separators is ~!, /, - and _ . By using the dual combination of ~! this allows for the use of slashes, dashes and underscores in the artists name or the song title.   Using these rules allow you to update the title tag in songs before or after ripping them, thus accommodating almost any required variant. It is critical that you verify your separators before you rip/import music as incorrect usage will cause artists/song title mapping failures.
